This February, we’re celebrating African American History month, and 1HP is joining in on the celebrations by bringing the spotlight on black artists.

Black History Month has been celebrated in the United States since 1976, 50 years after the first celebration of Negro History Week, pioneered by Carter G. Woodson and the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History. Aiming to celebrate the achievements, history, and heritage of black people, celebrations have varied, from lectures to performances and exhibits across various communities nationwide.

Here’s what to expect from 1HP this African-American History Month:

  1. We’ll be taking a look at the literary contributions of black writers and discussing some of their masterpieces.

  2. We’ll be talking about Presidents’ Day and the history behind it.

  3. We’ll be getting to know Toni Morrison, one of the most influential black female authors.

  4. We’ll be sharing another list of must-read books by black authors.

  5. Finally, we’ll be sharing a list of up-and-coming black writers and their best sellers.

Come join us as we celebrate black excellence here at 1HP!
