Hearts All Over the World Tonight

Posted on Feb 14, 2017

Can you smell it? Love is in the air! It is that one day in the year when you can openly and unapologetically profess your love to someone. And we have St. Valentine to thank for that.

Saint Valentine: How Love’s Martyr Came to Dublin at http://www.headstuff.org/2016/07/st-valentine-man-myth-martyr/

St. Valentine was a Roman priest who constantly contradicted then-emperor Claudius II. Under Claudius II’s rule, all men were required to train as warriors and serve the army for the rest of their lives. Of course, not everyone wanted that. The men who wanted to marry approached Valentine, who married the men to their spouses in secret. Eventually, Claudius II found out about this and ordered Valentine to be executed immediately.

It is said that Valentine was executed on February 14, so his feast day is celebrated every year on that day. St. Valentine was a champion of lovers, so his feast day is often celebrated with professions of love.

Chocolates, sweets, and flowers are only a few of the items that are popular on this day. There is also a tradition of giving cards to the person whom you want to be your “Valentine.” To celebrate the holiday, we whipped up some pun-ny cards that are sure to put a smile on anyone's face today!

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!

Happy Valentine's Day!
